Russia-Ukraine war: 50,000 Russian soldiers dead

Since Russia attacked Ukraine, the number of Russian soldiers who have died in Ukraine has exceeded 50,000, according to the BBC. It is said that the number of dead in the last year is about 25 percent more than the first year of the war.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, BBC Russian, the independent media group Mediazona and volunteers have been counting the bodies.

The new cemetery at Shamsan Ghat has also given information about some dead soldiers. It is said that the BBC team also gathered information from government reports, newspapers and social media.

In the second year after the start of the war, more than 27,300 Russian soldiers died. It is said that Russia refused to give any response on this matter. Since the start of the war, the death toll has exceeded 50,000.

This is 8 times more than the figure published by Russia in September 2022. It does not count the soldiers who died in Donetsk and Luhansk, which are occupied by Russia in northern Ukraine. In February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed.
